Today’s scripture played over and over in my mind this morning as I drove downtown: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

As I meditated on these words, I thought about how faithful God has been in my life. When I lean on Him instead of myself, His grace is sufficient and He carries me through easy as well as difficult times. However when I try to depend on myself, I end up defeated, frustrated, and empty.

During the devotion time, the Spirit spoke to me about the truth of these verses as they relate to those we were there to serve. Looking around the circle, I saw so men and women who are dealing with overwhelming situations. The volunteer who shared this morning told our gathering that the key to these verses is the phrase “trust in the Lord.” It is through this faith that God becomes Lord of your life and that you can give everything over to Him. Because of His character, He will then care for us in ways we can’t understand—no detail is left unnoticed. My prayer is that those who heard these words or read them on their scripture cards will trust in God and give up control of their lives. The Lord will then be faithful to “make their paths straight.” Soli Deo Gloria!
