It was cold in the park this morning, but that didn’t keep people away from Grace’s Kitchen. One man shared with us that he got the job he had interviewed for last Thursday. We have been praying for him, and it was neat to celebrate his good news. Another man shared that he was hopeful about a potential job. A third man who we haven’t seen in more than two months came by to give us an update on what has been going on in his life. We rejoiced over his news that after working through the holidays, he has saved enough money to visit his son in Memphis. What a blessing!
At the same time, we spoke to many people who are facing significant health issues, who desire jobs, who struggle with addiction, and who want to get off the streets, but to no avail. Everything in their lives seems so insurmountable! It is for this reason that God has called us to serve in the park—to share His life-changing and life-giving love with those we meet.
It is so humbling to think about how much God cares for us! His word tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This is the key—we must repent and recognize our need for salvation. Once this happens, we belong to our heavenly Father. Does this mean we no longer will face trials? Absolutely not! But it does mean that our lives are not our own, they are God’s and that is enough.
This is our prayer for everyone with whom we come in contact. Only God can effect change in our lives; on our own, we are incapable. Continue to pray for those we serve as they face overwhelming challenges. Pray for their protection and that they will seek God with all their hearts. We would also appreciate the same prayers for us.
