Despite the coolness of the day and the rain, the light of God shone brightly in the park this morning. The first instance when we experienced God came during our team’s prayer time before setting up. One of our friends in the park who joined our circle offered words of praise to our Savior, thanking Him for the opportunity to eat and talk with us each week. As this man humbly prayed, the unity we have as children of God, despite our different circumstances, overwhelmed us.

The second instance came during our devotion time. This week’s scripture is found in Isaiah 26:3—“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” The volunteer who led our devotion time talked about the importance of trust and how many times we each have been disappointed by other people. She stressed that only God is truly worthy of our trust; He never lets us down. To reinforce the truth from God’s Word, we then sang “ ’Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus.” Such worship is so uplifing!

The third instance came during the small-group Bible study we started this week for any who were interested. Five men participated in the study, which is led by one of our volunteers. They are exploring who God is and why it is important to know Him. The leader of this group offered the following reflection of what happened as they studied God’s Word together: “I was really amazed at how God worked during the lesson. Everyone was really engaged and spoke practically and honestly about how God has been revealed to them, the desire they have to know God, and how they see others in God’s image. After our Bible study time was over, I think we all were reflective. I could tell the Lord was really moving. The guys begin to introduce themselves to each other formally, which we hadn’t done at first. I felt that we were connecting to each through Christ. They all knew each other’s faces and talked about other places that they see each other downtown but never knew one another’s name—this is the natural bond we have as brothers and sisters in Christ.”

These are just three ways we experienced God in the park today, but we know He was in all that we said and did. It is such a privilege to be the hands and feet of Christ as we serve our precious friends in the park. Soli Deo Gloria!
