God gave us a beautiful day to serve on Thanksgiving morning. We were not anticipating a large crowd due to the many groups serving today, but we ended up giving away all the food we brought. It was neat to reflect on the relationships that have developed since Thanksgiving last year, and how people came to eat because they knew we would be there.
We had a good number of volunteers this morning and were thankful for their willing hearts. We also had several guests we had never seen before and had plenty of volunteers talking with them and building relationships. One man in particular talked with several of our volunteers. He is not homeless, but his monthly check leaves very little each month after he pays the rent. We were able to give him extra lunch bags to feed his adult children who were visiting with him for Thanksgiving. His gratefulness for what we were doing reminded us to be thankful to our Heavenly Father for all of our many blessings. We are also thankful that He has called us to build relationships with those we serve, as that is the only way for lives to be changed. God has been so gracious to us throughout the journey of Grace’s Kitchen, even as we learn from our mistakes. We are thankful for perseverance that only comes from Him!
