This morning as we gathered to pray with our volunteers, we were joined by several of those we serve. We were thrilled to hear our friends join in the prayer time and were encouraged by their words. One prayer in particular touched us deeply. As our friend Charles prayed that we would all find hope in God, he stated that “some of us are homeless, but not hopeless, and some of us are not homeless but are hopeless. ” It was a great reminder of where our true hope is found.
Our devotion time was based on John 15: 7-8- “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” As we strive to go deeper with those in the park, we were encouraged to see one man with his Bible following along and reading the scripture on his own. The request for Bibles lately has been increasing, and it is always encouraging to see the Bibles actually in use! We closed the devotion with a time of worship, and plan to continue this in the weeks to come.
There were many new faces in the park today as well as many we knew. We watched a young woman we have come to care for reject offers of assistance in getting into a shelter so she can have a chance to keep the baby she is expecting in about 8 weeks. It makes us sad that she is living in such a rebellious lifestyle, but we know that there is a God who can change her heart. We have been called for now to be a ministry without walls. We have the unique opportunity to meet people where they are, and really get our hands dirty with the situations we encounter. It can be discouraging and overwhelming at times, but we know we are to persevere. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Grace’s Kitchen.
