“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8

Lisa and I have been prayer-walking downtown almost every Monday for the past two months. As we walked this week, our prayers were focused on where Grace’s Kitchen, the restaurant, will be located. While we walked, I flipped through some Bible verse cards and came across this verse from Hebrews. Reading it encouraged me.

When we began this ministry called Grace’s Kitchen, we had no idea that we would be looking for restaurant space just eight months after God called us on this journey. In fact, I remember that in late summer 2009, we called the restaurant portion of this ministry “a long-term vision.” To me this meant it would be at least two years before we were even equipped to look for space. God had different plans. Since last June, God has opened numerous doors to show us that this goal of a pay-as-you-can restaurant is getting closer to reality.

What does this have to do with Abraham? Well, Abraham and Sarah had no idea where they were going when God called them to leave their home in Ur. However, they believed God and followed Him. That is what Lisa and I are doing now. We don’t know what God’s complete plan is for Grace’s Kitchen. We do know that He is faithful and that He is leading us to open a restaurant that will glorify Him. We are striving to be obedient to His call. Just like Abraham and Sarah, we face great difficulties and uncertainties. However God is faithful through it all—we must continue to believe Him. No matter where He leads, our desire is that He alone is glorified.
